I understand what you're saying Derek and that's all well and good when you have a crew. Single handing in 12+ knots of wind make going forward to adjust jib cars a major chore though. As a single hander, I'm not willing to risk being tossed over the side from the weather deck while trying to adjust a car as the boat is bouncing around in wind and wave on the auto pilot. In light air I don't have a problem. The idea of it in heavier air goes against my sense of safe practice.
Thanks for the tip Renzo. A very practicval tip that I'll try next season.
That's easy! I decided to convert the ice-box into a refrigerator. The project included: dismantling an apartment size refrigerator, prepping the ice box to receive the cooling coils and reglassing the opening as needed, building a bracket to mount the compressor, mounting the evaporator coils, and insuling the ice-box better. It was working great when I left the marina for a 20 mile sail that include everything from 2-3 foot chop, and 10-15 degree heeling. Upon arriving to our destination we connected the shore power. I expected a cold ice box but, no. The space underneath the ice box was warm-hot. I attributed the failure to poor ventilation, or the compessor just wasn't designed for the conditions a boat can experience. The next weekend I stripped everything out, glasses in the holes, removed the drain tubing, and now have a fine dry goods storage compartment. LOL Randy Randa Sue C25 #5947
