We were towing our new trailer across the Mojave Desert this past Wednesday when we pulled into this podunk town to refuel. The guy at the next pump says (referring to the name plate on the side rail) "I purchased a trailer from Trail-Rite a couple of years ago!" Turns out his last name was Wilcox of the former Wilcox-Crittenton - who used to manufacture and sell boat hardware to the marine industry, including Catalina Yachts. When I later explained that we were enroute to Marshfield, MA to retrieve a C25 he further explained that his father (and founder of the above company) was from there. I felt the U.S. getting smaller by the minute.

Anyway, the guys at Trail-Rite did a great job. They even banded the roller-trains for the trip home.

Very nice, I particlarly like the electric winch. I'm putting one on my trailer in the spring after I get it sand blasted and painted.

Does this trailer carry a standard fixed keel model, or do you need a wing or swing keel to fit on a trailer like this?

While parked for the night on the way from Vancouver, BC to San Diego CA in Andersen, CA Wallmart parking lot we were greeted by Russ and Nancy McKinley, Jacksonville, Oregon who own a 2004 C250 Wk which they were able to purchase from someone who won the Catalina 250 on the TV program "The price is right"... small world!!

BTW A warm welcome when Russ and Nancy visit the association forum and may even consider membership...

Bruce, all of the C25 fin keel trailers I've seen have square bunks and are (naturally) much taller because of the draft. This trailer was designed specifically for a wing so 70% of the boat's weight sits on the keel and the remaining 30% on the roller trains. Even though the wing has more draft than a retracted swing - I'm not sure the bunks are positioned (fore and aft) to support the leading edge of the swing keel. Interestingly, my 1981 C25 also had a Trail-Rite. That year they used straight axles which resulted in the boat sitting several inches higher. A former dock neighbor had a 1986 swinger with the "droop" style axle (see photo above) that allowed the boat to sit lower on the trailer - noticably lower.

Al, as much as I might like an electric winch, this one is the manual two-speed Dutton-Lainson with a strap, 2000 lb "pull" capacity.
