I may have made a big mistake selling my C-25 and purchasing an Alberg 29. I have been in touch with the Alberg 30 webmaster and let me tell you they are a cold bunch. Not much information and even less help. Im sure glad to have made friends here. After exploring other sites I have been unable to find any that compare to the Catalina group. Close friends good advice and a wonderfull site make this group what I would rate as the best in the United States. I know I have a good vessel but its hard to find a group to join. I dont think more than 200 Alberg 29's were made.
'Too bad you've already run into some snobbery, but I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised. Anyway, you're welcome here any time ... 'not much snobbery here, but you might have to tolerate some occasional ribbing!
Keep us posted on your new boat ... she sure is pretty!
I spend some time on the California Cape Dory Website almost daily checking out what those folks have to say. They seem like a fairly knowlegable bunch, and topics often are about things other than Cape Dory's. I think you will find that you could probably get questions answered about your boat, since you a common designer with those folks and I think (judging from posts I have read) quite a few have owned Albergs in the past. http://www.toolworks.com/capedory/bboard/. There is also a Alberg 22 website that has a lot of links to various associations for other Alberg designs http://www.cyberus.ca/~campione/alberg22/index .
When I was in the market and considering a Cape Dory 26, I followed the Cal. CD site and saw discussions of just about everything Carl Alberg designed, as well as things he didn't (the CD-25). They were a friendly, helpful group that gave me some good, straight answers on some areas of concern--such as backing into a tight slip. (Many of them had trouble with that.)
Based on the participation here, you could deduce that of the ~200 Alberg 29s built, about 2-4 people might be active on a website, which in turn means there isn't going to be much of a forum. Still, you may find a few of them out there somewhere.

I read an article in Chesapeake Bay magazine a while back about an Alberg 30 group that was quite active, had raftups, gatherings, i think maybe a newsletter. You might poke around and see if they are more helpful and forthcoming. The best website i have encountered is this one, and I have perused or exchanged with a bunch, used to be pretty active on the Albincruisers site, they are a very helpful bunch and quite hands-on, busted knuckle, but mainly focused on long distance traveling, fair winds, ron Orion #2343 srsk SW FL
I have already contacted the Alberg 30 group. You cant join their group unless you OWN an Alberg 30. It kind of burned me a little to read and then be told that. Its writen in their bylaw's. I think what Ill end up doing is just joining a Puget Sound cruising group here.
