If you are looking for spare parts for your C25 you might want to avoid this posting:

http://charleston.craigslist.org/boa/1549481848.html

I sent some money via paypal and now he doesn't return my calls. I'm waiting until tomorrow evening before I file a complaint with PayPal's resolution department.

I've sold a few items on Craigslist, but always on an in person deal. Craigslist to me is a risky site, full of scammers. If an item I might be interested in isn't within driving distance to meet and see the item, Pay for it and throw it in my car then its not going to happen for me. You don't know anything about this boat, Heck it could be stolen for all you know and the reason you aren't getting any response from these people could be that they got caught and are spending a weekend in jail. I hope everything turns out OK for you.

Not enough money (less than 1 boat unit) to lose any sleep over - but (up until now) I have found sailor types very trustworthy.

The seller seems to be no sailor! He wants to sell "pulleys" and a boat without its "mass". Looks very shady, like you said.

I have to agree with Scott, if it's on CL, I want to see & touch it before I pay for it. I've had mostly good luck on CL, but there are always flakes to deal with, as well as scammers. On this site I'll ship stuff before I've been paid for it, and never once had a problem. Hopefully you hear from the guy, the boat looks like it's in decent shape, and the winches alone are worth his asking price.

If he does rip you off, you should file a police report as well, they can track who it is through his phone number.

I've bought and sold many things on CL (including current Cat 25). I am a true CL junkie. I am sure there are scams (like one listed above potentially), but overall, think CL is the greatest. It gives you a chance to barter somewhat prior to even investing travel time. Also, if you are pretty sure it is a scam OR guy is just plain unresponsive.....FLAG HIM!

But Dave Im sure you went and looked at Bamboo and met the seller BEFORE any money was exchanged. I also see that the posting was removed.

Craig's List even recommends staying local and/or meeting the seller and inspecting the merchandise.

Well I may have jumped the gun a little here. Apparently the seller was out of town over the weekend and is now ready to begin packaging the items for shipment.

Yes, CL does recommend buying local but I feel sailors (in general) are a different breed. He even suggested using PayPal as it becomes a legal agreement - protecting both parties.

I have recommended that he list the remaining items on the Swap Meet.

Steve, I'm guessing you are looking to get that drawer from this guy. Let us know how this turns out. That whisker pole looked interesting to me. I'm hoping the guys legit.

I just spoke with Justin. He believes the boat is sold. He will delete the ad if it is.

I sold an O'Day Mariner on CL last year. That process showed me that there were as many flaky buyers as there are shady sellers. CL is a great tool, but it takes tremendous amounts of patience on both sides.

When I saw this posting I was in Charleston on a business trip and I will be restoring a boat, so I called Justin (on the 19th) and told him I was in town ... Justin tried to get me off the phone as quickly as possible, and was not interested in speaking with me. Definitively something fishy.

Here's the listing for those who may not have seen it:

http://charleston.craigslist.org/boa/1558296804.html

Have requested Justin refund my money. Have flagged the listing and sent a message to Craigslist explaining the non-delivery of goods. Have also filed a complaint with the PayPal resolution center.

Thanks Jan for your post - it only confirms my suspicions.

News at 11 . . .

BTW - this is <u>not</u> the same Justin who recently posted items on the Swap Meet board.

Well the bad news is I never received my parts from Justin.

The good news is PayPal is refunding all of my money.

The silly news is that as I write this - the posting still appears on Craigslist . . . even after I flagged it a few times - explaining that I didn't receive the merchandise I paid for.

Its good to hear that you got your money back but like I said earlier in this thread, I don't trust people on Craigslist unless I see them and the object in person. Its kinda like the wild wild west.

Eh, I just went & flagged it too. It takes a certain number of them for it to be actually pulled.

Well, after refunding my $100 for the parts he never shipped, Justin is now giving the boat away. He should run for congress.
