Another question for input (and Don L. "North Star", please spell check for me).

I want to lead my Main & Jib Halyard to the cockpit like on my '22. However, all the lines for the spinnaker are there already (2 on SB, 1 on port).

It appears to me that if I run the Jib Halyard back on port and the Main on starboard, there will not be enough room for the clutches or cam cleats between the pop-top edge and the edge of the cabin top.

The only solution I can see is to cut off 1 loop of my 7-loop handrail to make room.

Any suggestions out there?

Patrick,

A plus on the spelling.

Have you seen this article by John Gisondi in the Tech Tips section?

Here is the text:

Triple Rope Clutches

Submitted by John Gisondi

Peregrine has triple clutches on each side. On the port side (near my cabintop winch), I have main halyard, boom topping lift and spinnaker halyard. On the starboard side, I have the spinnaker pole topping lift, main reefing line and main outhaul. From a mast plate with 4 holes fore and aft of the mast, swivel blocks send the lines straight out the side to Shaeffer triple deck organizers. The lines are routed back to the cockpit between the handrail and the poptop, to Spinlock triple rope clutches. The deck organizers and clutches are bolted through the deck. There are no plates in the cabin but large washers.

osmepneo has triple clutches on the pop top. At this point I only use them for halyards, but anticipate using them for control lines - I like the idea of main reefing, in the future.

Can't send pictures. osmepneo is under wraps.

Glad to know the spinlock triple will fit. None of my catalogs give dimensions and the space looked to narrow. Thanks.

One question, my idea was to run the Main Halyard, Spinnaker Pole topping lift and Spinnaker Halyard to Starboard. Then, the Jib Haylard, Spinnaker Pole downhaul to port. I'd like to use the third for a jiffy reefing system.

Anybody have a diagram of the best way to quickly reef the main? My main has two sets of reef points (I guess that's standard). My '22 only had one and was very easy to tie.

Thanks,

Patrick

Patrick - on "This Side Up" we have a simple one-line reefing system.
From a padeye on the port side almost at the boom end a 3/16" line goes up thru' the reefing cringle, down to a turning block on the starboard end of the boom, thru' a couple of padeyes spaced along the stbd side of the boom, thru' a turning block on the gooseneck, thru' the reefing cringle on the luff, down thru' a turning block on the mast step, thru' a triple deck organiser to a cam cleat adjacent to the side of the poptop by the companionway. The important postioning is for the padeye and turning block at the aft end of the boom - the reefing line needs to pull the mainsail clew BACK and DOWN
at roughly a 45 degree angle, and the turning block at the gooseneck neeeds to pull the luff straight down.
One crewman eases the main halyard to a pre-marked point, the other hauls like heck on the reefing line. As soon as the reefing line is cleated, the first crewman retensions the main halyard. Takes them about 20 - 25 secs, they remain in the cockpit and we don't even have to come head to wind! (Also, we never, ever, use the tie-down lines - in fact we don't even have the cringles on the main!)
Hope this helps - I'd draw you a diagram but my artistic ability is non-existent

I've got a triple on the port side and a double rope clutch on the starboard (easylock brand). Lines led back thru deck organisers. It's the only way to go.

I'd be a little leery of mounting them ON the pop-top. It's only held down by two small dogs, but there's enough room between the pop-top and the grab rail to mount them without having to carve up the grab rail.

PATRICK,
IF YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON A HARKEN CATALOG THEY HAVE SEVERAL WAYS TO RIG FOR REEFING IN THE BACK OF THEIR CATALOG. THIS PAST SEASON I RIGGED MINE FOR JIFFY REEFING FROM THE COCKPIT AS THEY SHOW. IF YOU CAN,T FIND ONE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL GET YOU ONE.

To bring more than 6 lines aft, I plan to add a second level of more lightly loaded lines lead to camcleats & fairleads mounted on a teak bridge. The bridge will be located just ahead of the clutches, and will staddle the lower set of lines.

Here's a link to a photo of the clutches, winch, relocated handrails, etc.: [lines lead aft photo]
