Since we have owned the boat for about 7 years, we have enjoyed and like this forum as our own family. So... we just wanted to let you know that Johanna and I are on the verge of "casting off", in less than a week, for a 3 month voyage to Africa.
Our plan, since we have been kept healthy and capable, is to add a tiny contribution to Wycliffe Bible Translators work overseas doing hosting and facilitation work in Yaounde the capital of Cameroon, Africa.
No.. unfortunately we don't dare to take our '95 C250 WB "Someday Lady", on this trip and will greatly miss it and since we're not sure of having access to the internet we'll miss all of you guys on the forum for awhile.
We'll plan on the way to stop for a week in our native Holland for family visits, (have 7 loveable and caring sisters), friends and of course looking at boats and pursuing good deals. Anything you guys want... let me know...
For those that speak Dutch: "Goede vaart en een behouden aankomst" loosely translated: "Good voyage and a safe arrival" or French "Bon Voyage"
Henk for Johanna too
ps Thanks to our Mainsheet Editor, David Bennett, our Destination Trip to San Diego part one (November/December 2009) may be featured in the May '10 issue of the Mainsheet magazine... thank you David for your dedication and hard work!!

Good for you! You might be surprised by the availability of internet access. USAID has been helping a number of African countries greatly expand access and equipment. Cell technology and Wifi are growing like wild-fires!
Fair winds, Henk. I'll look forward to reading of your adventures. The trip from BC to Cameroon will involve so much more than just the miles traveled.
As to Holland -- one of my fondest memories is a dairy farm in Gouda. Another the Keukenhof Gardens - but alas, I think you'll be passing through too early in the year for tulips. The bike trails through the dunes near the Hague make for an interesting bike ride assuming you're in good enough shape to handle the only hills in Holland. (We were surprised to find them ) We returned to A-dam along the side of a flat highway. That was part of a week long bicycle trek one summer many years ago.
What adventures lie ahead? Despite all its ills and politics, Africa still holds a mysterious lure. I hope you will keep a journal and share some of your experiences with us one of these days.
As for Holland...I was blessed with an artistic daughter who spent a couple of semesters in Den Bosch. Heard many wonderful stories about the people, the food, the art...and of course how Vermont's B&J ice cream shops were popping up in the train stations, thanks to Unilever.
