We went to the show on Friday.

We expected that the sail show would be slightly diminished with the economic downturn, but it was almost not there!

There was only 1 pier of sailboats in a sea of power boats, they had a cheek calling it 'Strictly Sail'

Catalina was there with the 22,250mkII, and three bigger boats including the 375 ... NICE! We took a 15 minute walkabout on that!

Mark from the Key Largo 'Tiki Water Sports' was promoting the C250 and anyone that wanted would have a great deal on that boat! We'll make a point of stopping at their store next time we're in Key Largo.

Oh, did I say that I really liked the 375? Really nice!

Anyway, we hit the vendors at Sea Isle Marina where the 'Strictly Sail' (NOT!) was held, and then over the Convention Center. Lot's of vendors especially if you have one of those things that need 1000 horses to push it through the water.

We bought 4 LED's from 'MastLite' while there. Two were the Festoon lamps, they are awesome! I'll get some more of them!
The other two were replacements for the Cabin swivel fixture bulbs.
Sadly they don't fit (BA15SD27W) as the lamp base is too wide above the Bayonet fitting.

There were a LOT of vendors! perhaps 40+ at the Stictly sail (NOT!) and then in the main hall of the convention center there were probably over a hundred plus west marine. Then there is the side hall at the convention center and finally the outside vendors selling stuff ranging from 20 wheeled boat carriers to the 'best loan deals in town'

Anyway, we spent nearly 5 hours including about a half hour waiting in inline for the busses between parking, Sea Isle Marina and the Conventiion center and back.

Very dissapointed in the Stictly sail, but very impressed by the Catalina 375, now that is a nice boat!

That's too bad. The first big sailboat show I ever attended was the St. Petersburg Sailboat show, years ago, and it was a really good one. It's held the first week in December, and I heard the attendance in 2008 increased by 30%. I haven't heard agbout 2009 attendance, but St. Pete is a big sailing center, so the St. Pete show should usually be a good one. Does anyone know if it's still a good show?

I'm glad we decided to pass on the MBS, but the night shuttle launch was unbelievable. We took a side trip to Blue Springs SP to see more manatees than I could count and are now shivering again in Destin.

Yeah, got a big yawn out of us too. Didn't even bother to take the shuttle to see the sailboats after we heard what was down there. Saw Bob Bitchin, John Kretchmer and some EXPENSIVE beer, that was it... But we really don't need to buy anything or dream about a bigger boat anymore, so I guess that makes a difference.

Back in the 70s, Stamford (CT) had a big sailboat show--all the boats going from Newport to Annapolis... Then it merged with the powerboat show in Norwalk... then the sailboats started passing us by, and a couple of years ago there was exactly one Bendy-Toy--the only mast among a few hundred stinkpots up to 90'. The last couple of years Norwalk has had a few more sails, but if not for the masts, you'd have a really hard time finding them. Then again, the ratio at the Darien Boat Club we belonged to was probably about 20-1, and many of the "20" were new with twin monster outboards, while the "1" was something like my 1985 Passage. I guess the shows have what the buyers are looking for...

We had not been to the Cleveland boat show for several years. We went last month and were very disappointed - couldn't even find a pair of sailing gloves!!!

The weird part is the number of PB that are on the water!
When we purchased JD in 2005, we used to do a regular head count at anchor and during daylight on the water. We were typicaly about 100:1
eg. 100 power boats to 'Saw one!' sailboats.

Nowadays, it's more like 10:1 in fact, most mornings when we wake at anchor, there are more sailboats insight than PB's!

But PB's dominate at the shows!

There must be a lot of PB's on trailers amoungst weeds!

We're taking JD out this Friday for a Friday,Sat,Sun,Mon and back on Tuesday trip.

Who cares if it's Freaking freeeeeeeezing (ok, that's Florida Freezing!
