I do not recall if it was in this forum or possibly in Sail magazine where I saw an article that detailed a method of dropping anchor and beaching so that when it was time to leave, the bow was pointed out to open water and all that was needed was to haul in the anchor line. Does anyone remember this or have an idea on how to do this?
Jay... I've used it a few times when on shore winds made it possible. The great advantage is that it provides an almost beached situation. Beaching with any surf is not a good idea so it allows coming very close to the beach and using the swim ladder to access the beach with the boat staying off the beach riding the surf.
Arlyn, thanks for the info. Does this sound correct-drop the anchor, proceed bow first to the beach, while securing the anchor to the stern of the boat. When ready to leave, move off the beach stern first until the bow is clear then use the anchor line to swing the boat around bow away from the beach and pull up anchor
Jay... when I've done it, I drop anchor and let the wind take the boat stern toward the beach feeding rode until the boat is at the desired location just off the beach and still floating but in shallow enough water to get off the boat using the swim ladder.
