Fellow C250 owners -

Sorry to bother you with this but I believe I could use some help. I have to bring my boat (an hour away from here) to a shop to get some work done but the shop only has a 10' door. The specs say the C250 is 10'4" on a trailer ... but is that with or without the mast laying in its cradle?

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Ben, welcome to the forum, you'll find lots of answers to your questions here.

The answer is going to depend partly on what trailer you've got, and what model C-250 you've got (water ballast or wing keel). Our WK sits roughly 12-1/2 feet high on our factory trailer (I think). I honestly don't know what the height of the WB (which is what I suspect you have) might be, but I know some of the folks who have them will weigh in shortly.

I have never measured mine, but I'd think they'd provide the specs from a whole package point of view (meaning mast on top, since that's where the specs count).

If you really-really-really need to get through that door, you could remove your mast as well as your life line stanchions, bow pulpit & pushpit, but I wouldn't recommend it. The mast would be pretty easy, but the stanchions, not so much, and I know first hand how fun it is to get a wrench on a bolt up near the bow pulpit and can't recommend it for a casual exercise. However, if your deck hardware is old, it may need to be rebedded anyway, and this could be your opportunity. Just be aware that it's a fairly big job, especially for the stanchions. The push-pit & catbird seats (if you have them) would be fairly easy as you can get to the hardware from inside the battery compartment, the rest are more difficult.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks, David. I appreciate the quick response. Yes, you guessed it, it is a Water Ballast model. And you're right, it probably would do some good to rebed the life line stanchions ... but, since this is a 2004 fresh water boat that is/has been dry docked, I was hoping to get a few more seasons before that would be appropriate. I may have to make a trip this afternoon to make some measurements.

I'd find another shop before I'd remove the stanchions, pulpit and pushpit. Really, that would be a major piece of work. Is it the boat or the trailer that needs work? If it is the trailer can you launch the boat for the day and just take the trailer in?

Here's an out of the box idea.

See if the shop is willing and/or able to do the work in their parking lot if you provide the shelter from the elements. Then, you could get one of those back yard gazebos that you can find at home centers like Lowes or Home Depot. I've seen some rather inexpensive ones at Dick's sporting goods. That would provide a roof after you figured out a way to lengthen the legs -- PVC pipe comes to mind. You could use tarps to create sidewalls. Obviously this would only be able to cover part of the boat but, it might be enough.

I think doing all that would be far better than removing your stanchions. A 2004 boat souldn't even be close to needing them rebedded. Mine's a 1999 and still isn't close.

What kind of work are you getting done?

Another thought -- if you only need to save 4" maybe you could pull partly into the door then, replace your trailer tires with smaller diameter steel rims without tires for the short roll into the shop.

Well, for the sake of sharing knowledge, it appears that the height of a C250 water ballast, on the trailer, without the mast, is 9' 2".

I have stored our C250 WB in a garage every year since it was new and one of the garages had a 10' door. We had to take the mast crutch With mast in it of the pintle or is it grudgon to get it through the door (the stern height of the mast is the limiting factor). I do not recall the exact height but it is close but can be done. If you needed extra inches you could let some air out of the tires.

My Wk 250 on the trailer definitely sits just below 14'. It's nothing close to 12 feet high. The boat minus the boat and even with the forward mast cradle in its lowest position, it will not go through a 12' storage garage door while attached to my truck. Without the truck attached it was necessary to lower the wheel jack as far as it would go, and place the forward mast cradle in its lowest position in order to place the trailer in a covered storage area (12' high entrance).
