OK, so we had our monthly planning meeting this week for the Catalina 30/309 - Catalina 25/250 & Capri 25 2010 Nationals.
Boy, what a title. We may just call it "The Blast on the Bay".
We are expecting 12 to 20 Catalina 30s and I said 6 25s (lets hope!)
People need to plan on arriving Thursday September 23. We will have truck and trailer parking, launch ramp, and boat slips/raftups at Silver Gate Yacht Club.
The weekend before is the race around the Coronados (34 mile offshore race).
The weekend after is the San Diego - Ensendada (65 miles with PHRF, doublehanded, and cruising classes).
Two of my favorite events of the whole year. So come early and stay late! Anyone that does so, we will help you with slips and parking. These are PHRF events.
OK back to our event. On Thursday we will have practice sail in San Diego Bay and a "practice race" which is really a parade around La Playa Cove
Thursday night the yacht club will have a pizza party. Each and every out of town boat will have a yacht club member assigned as their hospitality host. Everyone is going to be more than welcome!
Friday the yacht club is going to have a continental breakfast.
2 races on Friday. Courses will be in San Diego Bay.
Friday night barbeque at the yacht club.
Club facilities will be open for breakfast Sat and Sun. There are many places to eat on Shelter Island. I'll be eating muffins and drinking coffee on Indiscipline.
2 races Saturday, in the ocean, in roughly windward/leeward courses.
On Sunday we will join the Southwestern Yacht Club Little Ensenada warm up, which will be a triangle race offshore in the area off the hotel del Coronado. This should be over early to get boats back on trailers.
There will be tee-shirts for sale. There will be polo shirts. Each skipper is going to get a polo shirt in their race packet. We are getting sponsors so there will be give aways and freebies.
At this time, there is no plan to charge for a slip or for rafting up.
Any boat presenting a valid PHRF certificate will not be measured. You will race under your certificate. Any boat without a certificate and racing under a cruising class may be measured (by me and SGYC chief measurer).
Depending on entries, we may have a racing and crusing fleet. All 25s will have one combined start.
Jim, In the 2010 National Regatta Notice of Race it calls out for the C30's to have a current PHRF certificate showing Area G ratings while for the C25's it says "Catalina 25, Catalina 250, and Capri 25 International Association class rules for yachts of that class competing". Are these rules somewhere on the forum? Will the inspection you state you and the measurer will be performing be in lieu of a PHRF certificate? Also what kind of numbers do I need on my sails? I currently only have a main sail with your hull number since I bought it from you. Will that suffice? Do I need numbers on the main and foresail? What about my asym?
You can register your sail numbers with the race committee. 398 is fine for you as I am 97992.
Sail numbers can be purchased at Sailrite for about $1 each.
If you don't have numbers on the jib or asym I don't think anyone will protest you.
Yes, we will measure you in lieu of having a PHRF certificate, although PHRF San Diego is only $35. You are a standard rig, you will be 228.
Right now, we have not decided how we are going to handle spins and asyms. If we have enough boats to warrant racing with spins (which I prefer) then we will give a non-spin offset of 19 to the non spin boats. That means their handicap will be 228 + 19 = 247.
