Accidentally left the drain plug in my cockpit overnite, and found 2 gallons of water in port rear area under the cockpit. Starboard side was just had a little water. I think water is leaking in around the cockpit drain. I wonder how these were installed. Can they be removed and sealed?
I had just dried both sides a couple of days before.

Upon further inspection, these drains almost appear to have been swaged. They are the two drains in the cockpit. If I can not remove, need to seal rims. Am thinking of glue job, 3 M 4200, or marine tex are at hand. The gap is really narrow, so will not be able to do much surface prep. Since they pass through where the outboard is mounted, I suspect that it is a high vibration area.
With no feedback on the drains I went underneath. Found space between stern and cockpit full of foam insulation. Dug it out. It was some crazy guys idea of how to fix a leak. Used a hacksaw blade. Area is about 1 1/2 inches wide. At each of 2 lower corners of cockipt, inside hull, there are 2x 4s that the drains pass thru. One was rotted in total. The second a little better. Removed all wood and foam. Glassed around drains, and will install new glassed in wood spacers. The wood has a structural purpose. Will be glad to be done with this.
That's interesting work you are doing. I've read that these boats have weak transoms. I'm wondering if what you are doing could have an impact on that? What are the chances of you taking pictures of what you are doing for the forum? Thanks
Completed repair of the drains. Better than new. The wood spacers are totally glassed in. No problem with transom integrity. I Installed spacers in transom to achieve proper outboard support.
