Now that I have fixed it all up, I had to make a choice.. Keep the Hunter 34 or the Capri 25.
This 1981 boat is in great condition. New bottom job. Fixed all leaks and totally rebedded the ports. Did a lot of other fix-ups to bring it up to snuff. Full complement of mylar sales about 1 year old, plus older Dacron for casual sailing. This boat is known on Ray Hubbard for speed. "silver wings" Boat sits out of the water on a hydro hoist Ulta Lift 2, high and dry. 2 spinnakers and all the sailing/racing rigging. 6 HP Mercury, 2000, 4 stroke, ultra quiet, starts on first pull. New Acrylic hatch cover. No trailer, but great hydro hoist model UL 2 included for $9500. For lazy days, installed a new Ray Marine Tiller Pilot. I can't figure out how to insert pictures, so you will have to call or email for photos. Always freshwater... no salt. Boat is at Chandler's Landing Marina, Rockwall, TX. Shortly after I posted this I had some personal pandemonium in my life, which included cancer. I did not reply to a single inquiry. Now life is back to normal and I can not afford two boats in the water with two slip fees.
Had to make a tough choice as this is the fastest boat around in light air. PHRF is same as J22/24, but in light air it blasts right past them.
It has been a joy to own a boat on a quality hydro hoist. Never have to clean except for 4 inches of the keel. Aha.. no bottom jobs. I used to have a J22 on a hoist with black pontoons, and always wondered if it would come up.. Hydro Hoist did a lot when they created the Ultra Lift 2.
Selling has been a tough decision. I want both boats, but the practical reality is that as a Granddad, I need a large family boat, and as I am approaching retirement.. two boat slips is one too many for the wallet. The Hunter 34 is in light air sluggish, but fills the bill as a Granddad type, all aboard sail boat. With a much higher slip fee.
I have always been a boat Mr. Fixit. That is what I love to do. Probably more so than sail. I want to thank all who have walked me through every issue. I am not looking to get my investment out of the boat. now both the 6Hp and 2.5 Hp engines purr. You can rest assured that I have been over every inch of it and have poured in a lot of irretrievable sweat equity. That is what I do for fun. Just this week I installed a new knot meter and last week climbed a tower to learn about the spreaders.
This was probably the wrong place to post the boat. Now I have moved to the Swap Meet. Sorry for the intrusion.
I can now say beyond a doubt.. go Mylar. Never had Mylar before, and it is F-A-S-T.
I still can not figure out why Catalina quit building the Capri 25. It is a great boat. Over the past 16 years I have had a Beneteau First 235, Pearson 26, S2 7.9, Catalina 30, J22, and Hunter 34, along with this Capri 25. If you want an opinion on any of them, please feel free to call.
