I feel compelled to mention that for comparisons of PHRF numbers for local racing you also have to look at how the other boats in your fleet are rated, as they all might be offset from the USSAILING numbers by an equivalent factor. The general feeling here in Austin is that Lake Travis numbers are 3-6 seconds faster than most other places. Other boats I commonly race against, and their PHRF's here are:
* Olson 25 - 159 * San Juan 7.7 - 198 (192 for deep keel) * Wavelength 24 162 * J/24 168 * J/22 171
Thanks. I'm on Beaver Lake, Rogers, AR. The club is rating the Merit 25, J24, and my Capri at 171. A Holder 20 at 195, Oday 322 w/roller furling at 195. The difference from the average published by US Sailing ranges from -2 to +24. Doesn't seem quite right. But before I say anything, I want to get a feel for what others are racing under.
At Clear Lake in Northern California we use a National average for our club racing which is 174 but for our regattas where we invite outside boats we use Nor Cal (SF Bay) rating which is 168. Jim Carlsen Capri 25 #228
They have adjusted my rating to 177 due to undersized headsail (140). And adjusted the Oday 322 to 177. Seems a bit more balanced now. Everybody is within +/- 5 of the average.
177 is a gift with that 140, hope all is well with the boat, great to see some post on her. We are enjoying the 33 and need to see you guys at grand. Thank you for the lunch, and I hope you enjoy the Capri 25.
Sail it flat, head down below the fleet trying to pinch the groove, keep the traveler in the middle, adjust for the header, and use the 140 to sail the boat. It's a masthead. Downwind you will have a blast, pit the plugs in as water will fill the cockpit.
So glad to see you here, and great to see the boat go to some great people.
Hey Chris. We are having fun figuring the boat out. Sunday's racing was great! First race we finished way out in front and the second we finished second. Got a bullet and a 3rd for the day. Wind was light/mod. Good tip on the scupper plugs.
We will probably be racing Mom's boat in the Bartlett regatta which is at your end of Grand, Duck Creek area. Perhaps we will see you there.
