Greetings,

I took my Capri 25 on her maiden voyage to Catalina Island, last week. Sailed over from Seal Beach to Avalon. The trip over was 29 miles of "beating" and 5 miles on a reach hitting 8 knots surfing waves. The return was calm until We hit the Santa Ana's with 25 knots of headwind with four foot chop.

My sailing partner, pictured, had never been on a sailboat before. Luckily, He was a good sport.

That's awesome, man. Looks beautiful, though I was surprised how cold it must have been when I saw your friend wearing a sweater! lol How long have you been sailing, and how long did the trip take you?

It really wasn't that cold but it was about 7 AM when the picture was taken. There was a cold front that came down the West Coast last week so the temps were a little cooler than normal. The average high temperature for the week was in the low 70's, but sunny. The sail over to Catalina took about six hours and had the perfect amount of "adventure" associated with it.

I highly recommend making a Catalina trip. It was a perfect destination for my Family's Spring Break. My and my buddies families took the ferry over to Catalina while We sailed. We all stayed in a hotel once we reached Catalina and that kept the "significant others" happy. Avalon, Catalina has just about everything you need to keep the whole family happy and it's not that expensive.

I purchased my Capri 25 at the end of February this year with the intention of doing the Catalina Trip in April. I sailed a little growing up and did some sailing in SF Bay ten years ago. I was an avid "windsurfer" for ten plus years so I'm familiar with the basic sailing concepts. I sailed the Capri for several hours before purchasing it and the previous owner has been a great answering any questions I have.

My boat will eventually end up being berthed on the SF Bay, after I replace the standing rigging, and will primarily be day-sailed. I want to learn how to sail the boat well and then teach my children.

I'm happy to answer any questions concerning the logistics of launching a sailboat and sailing it to Catalina.
