So does anybody have one and if so do they work? I overnight on occasion and a few times the wind had the boat doing the dance on the hook so I was thinking of getting one. Any thoughts?

Hi Islander, I've been using my storm jib as a riding sail while at anchor for quite a while now with good results. I hank the sail to the backstay; secure what ends up being the aft lower corner to a length of 1/4" line so as to have the corner just above boom height; and hoist with the main halyard. The forward lower corner is secured to the base of the mast with another lenght of 14" line. Bill Holcomb - C25 Snickerdoodle #4839
After I let out the rode on the big anchor, I drop a small mushroom anchor with a short rode. It works great to reduce fishing. I've always been over a clay or sand bottom and my anchorages are pretty shallow. I'd also never do that in a reef area.
We made one from the SailRite Kit, works really well.
Having read the article about 'Anchoring Out' in the Feb Mainsheet, I'm even more inclinded to continue using it.
Easy to make (using a cheap white sowing machine from Best Buy) Easy to setup - takes maybe 3 minutes Easy to takedown - more time to fold than to unrig. Boat swings so much less when it is deployed.

Great way to learn about sail repair and sail design as well... I did the Sailrite kit for our C25 - reduced hunting by quite a bit. I liked it so much that we did not let the riding sail convey with the vessel, but rather brought it aboard our new one.
