finally settled on a sweet little boat, got a survey done yesterday with excellent results. should be picking it up in a few weeks to sail her the 80 nm up the Chesepeake home. I will be hanging out and reading (a lot of good info here!) now, and probably joining the association once i get the boat in hand. thanks to those who answered my questions while boat shopping!

Head for your local Sears and buy a 10" buffer and get West Marine's cleaner/polisher and spend a couple of hours buffing out the hull before you launch. You might test a stronger polishing compound to see if you can restore her.
Wet sand with 1000 grit. Polish with a 7" rotary buffer and Aquabuff 2000. It'll gleem. It's a ton of work, but you only have to do it once. Then wash and wax every year.
