I'll be racing around Catalina Island on board a Catalina 27 this 3 day weekend. Don't expect to set a elapsed time record, but here is the URL if anyone is interested.
Boat is a Cat 27, Carpe Dimani, well equipped, with 4 on board.
Looks fun. Good luck! I'm spending three days on the water for Memorial Day with my family, going to Beaufort, Shackleford Banks and Cape Lookout. No racing, though, just cruising (unless, of course, there happens to be another sailboat going in the same general direction...) http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en& ie=UTF8& msa=0& msid=109685077349198354219.000487837b7ef64419c72& ll=34.713396,-76.444244& spn=0.755199,1.223602& t=h& z=10

Wish us well! <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
They are nice boats, I race on one for the beer can races on Wednesdays. It's amazing how much more room they have down below and that you can stand up straight.
Me hiked out at a recent race:
With the way my traveler is set up our rigs are very similar. Of course they are more suited for cruising than racing but we beat C-30's all the time.
Michael, Is your boat based at Oriental ? Do you string trips together so you can sail other places ? Do you trailer it ?
I am jealous of sailors who can take a trip longer than ten miles. I've got to figure a way to get my Cat 250 from landlocked Lake Murray (Columbia, SC) to an affordable dock on the coast.

I'm based in Myrtle Beach, actually. I don't have a trailer. I sailed Windsong up to Oriental last month, about 120 nm, and I'm keeping it there through June in a slip at the Oriental Harbor Marina. Then I'll sail it back to Myrtle Beach. Meanwhile, I am LOVING Pamlico Sound. I drive up there every weekend, 3.5 hrs, to sail. There is big water, yes, but it's the skinny water that's proving to be the most fun. A Catalina 250 is a gunkholing machine. I highly recommend this cruising ground.
Tom, Congratulations on the Pirates race results. Well done! I was on the water that day, but nowhere near the race. I'll certainly let you know when Belhaven is in my sights. I'd love to meet you... and Isabelle. I had hoped to sail to Ocracoke this weekend, but wind is forecast from the east. I think the kids will probably enjoy Shackleford and Cape Lookout more anyway. A 10-hour passage is just torture for them.
