As we near our Cruise in two weeks, final prep of the new Dinghy 2.5hp outboard handing system is in hand.

My final solution is to mount an outboard bracket on the Mast raising pole and use a strap to attach to the outboard motor so that we can lift it securely to it's "off the dink position".

So was looking around for a strap to make lifting the outboard easier (why don't they make them built in on the small outboards????). We found a couple in the $40 range.

Went to PetSmart, bought a Nylon 'Petmate' 'Signature' dog harness, $17. Fits like a charm!

Paul,

Is this the harness you bought? Do you leave it on the outboard when it is running?

Paul - it's difficult to tell from the photo...is it 'tough enough' for your application?

I was thinking a D ring attached to cover with a backing plate ..
we have a 3.3 2 stroke .
then use a snap shackel to grab it ..

It's definitely strong enough! And fits like a glove. I was really suprised at how well and how easy it is to attach.

It's adjusted so that there is virtually no slack, and if I lift up on the D-Ring, it hangs almost vertical.

I'll finish the 'Crane' this weekend and post pics.

ps. we're keeping an eye on the slick as that could impact our trip.
