I have a bimini that came with my boat (85 C25 standard rig)and have never used it mainly because I dont know how to install it. I may be missing hardware that attaches the frame onto on the boat. I've also noticed from photos that there appars to be bungee cords at each corner. Does anyone have a detail so I can get out of the sun. I'm burned to a crisp with this great weather we've been having in Chicago!
Nylon webbing with snap-hooks and eye-straps are generally better than bungees, to keep the bimini firmly upright rather than pivoting fore-and-aft.
Some here have fabricated similar mounting brackets to slide on the genoa tracks, allowing some fore-aft movement. I thru-bolted the brackets to the side-decks just forward of the winch island, positioning the bimini so the mainsheet cleared the corners on a run, and the bimini partially covered the companionway. Instead of straps on the rear, I used telescoping struts that attached to brackets that clamped onto the stern rail. (I found the brackets in a big marine hardware catalog.) This way I could fold the bimini and leave it upright rather than laying across the companionway or cockpit. You can see the struts here...
Thanks Dave! I have the the brackets you showed in the photo except they are attached on the cabin roof deck. I didnt know how they were used and it seems they are in the wrong location. Yours makes alot more sense. I'll have to take another good look tomorrow when I go to the boat.
If you have them on the cabintop, I'm thinking maybe somebody planned to use struts like mine, except leaning forward instead of aft. They use the same sort of anchors.
