I tied a reef into my main the other day and found the aft end of the boom dropped considerably. Anybody have any ideas why? The sail is in great shape. It's not like the leach is stretched enough to drop the boom. I lifted it with the topping lift and had a deep draft in the sail. Made for a crappy day.
I did not use the jiffy reef but rather, tied it in a more traditional way at the tack and clew with weaving in the intermediary reef points.

Are you using a single line for the reef? If so, there may be too much slack at the reef clew. BTW, the reef points in the middle of the sail should not be tied in to the line(s) controlling the reef tack & clew - they are not designed to take the same stresses as the tack & clew cringles. Better to have a separate line for each one. I use 1/4" white braided line, knotted on each side of the main to hold it in place, with about 10" of line hanging down on each side of the sail for tying off under the boom.
I used a separate 1/4" line at each end then a completely different (smaller) line to gather the sail in between. The more I think of it, I think I just didn't have enough outhaul. I'll try again later this week. Happy to get any suggestions.
