I purchased a C25 with NH registration and want to register in MA, which requires a title. I took a pencil rubbing from the HIN plate under the tiller and proceeded to the Registry. The number only had 4 digits compared the Serial Number on the former registration that had 12 or so letters and numerals (the 4 digit hull no. was contained within this serial no.).

Is there a secondary location with the entire serial number somewhere on the vessel? If so, where?

Usually scratched into the hull on the starboard transom just under the rubrail. I think it is molded in on later models.

Your hull number is likely the number you described on the old registration. I think it starts with CTY (for Catalina Yachts) followed by the hull number (the same as the number on your mainsail if you have the original sails) Maybe preceded with place keeping zeros. The last 3 digits represent the month and year the hull was certified. As Dave said, you find it either pressed or scratched into the hull just under the stern rubrail on the starboard side. You should also find it inside a locker (mine's uner the starboard seats below decks) It'll be glassed into the the locker wall closest to the boat's midline.
Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum and to the joys of the C25. Browse the archives and ask lots of questions. Plenty of friendly folks with lots of good information.

Thanks from me too, I didn't know about the locker. I'll check Pearl when I go back to the lake.

It should be CTYK then your 4 digit number from the plate under the tiller then the letter and numbers for the month and year manufactured. The "K" is the designator for the C-25 model. It is "H" for the C-22's.
However, if you check the archives, you'll learn that the HIN numbering methodology changed at least once over the years.

Look for it as mentioned under the rub rail on the starboard transom. The plate only lists the hull number.

Here is a link that explains it

I believe that is only true for C250's. My C25 does not have such a plate.

I learned about it from a C25 poster and went to see if I had one on my 250. I did.

Probably something they added starting with a later model than mine. Maybe when they started including a fuel locker.

The plate has legal requirements for other things - capacity etc.

On boats before 8/1/84 boats had to have only 1 HIN number. This is the one on the starboard aft hull (transom if there is one) After that date, there needed to be two

Boats manufactured or imported on or after August 1, 1984, also have a duplicate secondary HIN affixed somewhere on an unexposed location inside the boat or beneath a fitting or item of hardware. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
