I belong to a yahoo group on Seagull engines, and from time to time, will receive emails from members around the world about servicing and maintenance issues. Sometimes folks will want to sell them.
This week, I heard from a guy in Sarasota who has four Seagull engines in the back of his shop, and he's selling the shop so he must get rid of the engines. I don't know which models or vintage, or what condition they are in, but two are short shaft and two are long shaft.
I believe he just wants them gone, so if you can get there, that would be best.
If there's anybody in that area who wants one or more of these, contact me by email and I will forward his contact info to you.
edit: my aol email is bruce2sail

On Craigslist Boston their is a guy who often is looking for Seagulls (I believe he repairs and resells them) you might have your friend try advertising up here and see if he gets any nibbles . . .
