Late april we stepped the mast after replacing the Windex..... Late May noticing IMHO inordinate amount of crap -twigs-grasses etc. in the cockpit Early June - Windex not working.... and more crap in the cockpit... Today, even found a pine cone..... as I was getting ready to leave the boat this evening, I was able to tie it all together.
Osprey perching on the mast after we had left the boat and dock.
Not sure if he was attempting to build a nest up there or just resting.... but with the crap in cockpit, think he's been doing it a while.
Normal? besides being on their all week, any ways to avoid?

we hang a CD (the music disc, not the investment...)from the sail cover on the boom, from a string...it flips about and spins in the wind and works great in keeping birds off the boat - maybe you can rig something from a halyard/messenger line to get it closer to the mast head.
You can probaby tie a CD to an icicle hitch and run it up the backstay. I ran my solar light up there this evening and we had drinks in the glow of three high power LEDs
A Windex usually has a bird spike on top of it or at least their are some Windex Models that have a bird spike. Perhaps you also need a small spike or something on top of the mast...but that means taking the mast down again.

If you aren't sailing regularly, taking the mast down for a week may relieve the problem anyway. While its down you could put a bird spike up there.
We usually get swallows and gulls hanging out in our marina, and sometimes a nest will appear on a masthead, but never from something as big as an osprey.
Of course if the boat was out sailing, the birds wouldn't be able to nest up there either. I'm sure your boss will understand that you need every second day off from now until October.
Nope.... Birds win again.... Went back yesterday..... I either need to call CSI because it looks like a crime scene (with blood splatters etc) or my osprey is back
And since as I arrived and saw him sitting up there again... I know which one is the correct answer.
Second step initiated. Now there is CD hanging from the "bird spike pole" <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"><i>Originally posted by britinusa</i> <br />Cool! Kiss wins again.
