Well, after the previously reported anchor locker drain tubectomy all is well, right? Of course not. More water. Since I was pretty sure the tube was not the culprit, I prayed this was not a hull/deck issue. Next thought occurring to me was: The nav lights are in cutouts and maybe this is it. The stbd light cutout proved to be elevated above the floor of the anchor locker by a fair amount, but the port "cats eye" cutout had practically no elevation...prime suspect. Upon close examination, I found the layers of hull, locker, and filler in the cutout had slightly opened seams betwixt them. Back to noble friend, marinetex, plus a tiny scrap of fiberglass scrounged from another source, made a lil bitty dam at edge of cats eye, marinetexed the hell out of the whole works within and without, and after all set up did the ongoing water test. Eureka! Admirals berth is dry. The alternative was to close the whole shooting match up and hang new lights from the pulpit. Thats the right thing to do, but the LIST is so long that I decided to postpone that to next year. Fot those with older boats with unexplained leaks forward, heres another place to look at. Fair winds, ron Orion #2343 srsk SW FL.

Another source for water intrusion is the bow eye. When I bought North Star the DPO had, on more than one occassion, used the bow as an emergency brake against the dock <img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>. In so doing, he bent and loosened the bow eye. This allowed water to drain from the anchor locker, along the hull, and in through the space around the bow eye which rotted the wood backing plate. I replaced the bow eye and backing plate and repaired the hull to stop the leak.

Another thing to consider is if you have the port/starboard flush navigation lights. There is a rubber O-ring that provides a seal between the plastic lens and chrome mounting plate. Over time, these O-rings dry out and crack. Replacements can be found at any hardware for a couple of cents.
