On my 79 the water tank is held in place by plywood that is tabbed to the hull on each end of the tank. I would have to cut those out then maybe cut the battery tray out too. I'm keeping my tank in, but it would be easier to cut the tank than cut everthing else. I'll be putting an access hole in mine to get my arm in there to scrub it, using it only for showers and washing.

I cut mine out with a jig saw. Great improvement to the boat. I used bottled water. You gain a huge amount of storage.

I decided to keep my tank in the boat. It could have been removed easily, but I thought better of it.

I used clorox, alcohol and vinegar to kill the gunk, then put my arm in through the inspection port and used a rag to wipe the gunk out.

The hoses were another story. I pulled them out and pushed a rag through them with a plumber's snake.

Now I use the water all the time, for washing and cleaning things, never drinking.

I only add a few gallons of water at a time, as I do not want the gunk to build up and the water to become de-chlorinated over time. I can keep tabs on the level by looking under the starboard settee from time to time.

I also have two gallons of fresh drinking water that I keep in some old Arizona Ice Tea jugs. I prefer these jugs because they're not made from polycarbonate.
