Only issue with using a glob of the toilet bowl wax ring is that everytime you are in the vicinity of the transducer, you feel like you have to use the head.

Thanks <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> I installed my transducer in 3 different places using the wax ring. It works but is very much less efficient. I can see the bottom well but not much of anything else(fish or vegetation)
Try placing it just to the starboard side and behind the swing keel cable volcano. Mine works very well there and I get plenty of warning as it gets shallow. It also highlights lots of little fishes!

those little fishes are some software developers joke....believe me, I have one on my powerboat/fishing boat too.
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> Those little fishes are actual returns but the fish is generated by the internal computer. If you run over a short stump it thinks it is a fish and places the fish symbol there. Turn off "Fish ID" and you will only see actual returns. You must then learn how to interpret them. I use mine all the time on my fishing boat. I fish over a wreck and can see if there are fish around the wreck. It is also great for finding bait and determining bottom type (Hard, mushy or grass). If you are seeing too many "Fishes" try turning down the gain.
The finders identify fish and their size by their air bladder echos, so anything with bubbles on, in, or under it can be interpreted as a fish.
edit: I've caught a lot of those little fishies while fishing for the bigger fishies. Maybe the next generation will attach "walleye" and "sheepshead" labels. Not that it matters, 'cause I'll probably still mostly catch the perch.
Thank you for the advice on using the wax seal to mount my transducer. I mounted it to the hull under the galley sink drawer. It works great. It is out of sight and is close to the electrical panel. Thank goodness for latex gloves.I had tried to secure it earlier with clear silicon but I got crazy readings for depth of our lake here in New Hampshire. I am going to cover the puck with a piece of 3" pvc pipe to avoid ever getting into the sticky wax seal. I was surprised that I didn't have the puck covered with water for it to work. My wife and I are enjoying are new to us 1984 Catalina 25. It was given to us. Yes given to us. What a wonderful blessing.
I would much rather drill a hole in my hull than have one of those sticky things on board. I really don't understand the big deal about mounting a thru-hull transducer, or anything for that matter.

It would cost me $300 to pull my boat. The $2 wax ring was a much better alternative.
