I was recently sent an invitation to become a beta tester for EarthNC's iPhone charting program. I exchanged email with them today and they asked me to extend this invitation to anyone in the association who has an iPhone/iPad or Android OS phone who would like to become part of the beta program. I just joined yesterday, so I don't know much about it yet, but it looks like it'll do some pretty cool stuff.
Here's the invitation:
Greetings! We are proud to announce the launch of the beta versions of our iPhone and Android mobile applications.
Version 1.0 of both versions will focus on the basics:
· Allow boaters determine their exact location on a particular NOAA raster chart
· View the charts both online and off-line (charts updated monthly).
· Create and store waypoints
· Search for nearby facilities, locations and chart elements
We are looking for volunteers to stress test the applications and to provide feedback on missing features, user interface issues, pricing and any other commentary you deem relevant.
We hope to complete the beta program within the next couple of weeks so your participation would be very welcome and valuable. Thank you for your time and we look forward to hearing from you!
Kind Regards,
The EarthNC Team.

I just filed my first bug. It was a challenge figuring out how to load the software but now that I know how, it's pretty easy. I'll write up the process and send it to them, because their explanation leaves some holes that you have to guess at.
Hey Limey How do you like the Droid? I have Verizon and we don't have the iphone yet, maybe next year. I understand that the Droid has an internal GPS that doesn't depend on having cell phone tower triangulation like all the other phones do. thanks
droid is pretty much awesome. the new droid X is coming out soon, got to play with one over the weekend. wait for that, it is very nice! the integration of google maps/navigation with the gps is excellent.
That's correct, most phones being marketed today have actual GPS chips in them, instead of tower triangulation.
Has anyone else signed up for the beta? I've got about 5-6 bugs logged and in the works. The folks are very responsive to emails and bug reports, it's kind of fun testing it.
