Let's get back to the boat.
How many jobs were created in New Zealand to build this thing? when I buy my multi million dollar Sailboat I'll buy American. but Im assuming that we haven't runall of ou manufaacturers out of business yet. Sabre still builds in America, right?
I'm into bicycling nowdays. My clothes are by Garneau, which have some models, the higher end ones built in the USA.
The high end New Balance running shoes are built in Massachussets. I wonder how much of their cost has Taxachussets costs built in
My new Charles battery charger on my Ericson is built in Ohio.
I'll gladly pay a few bucks more to put my fellow American's to work.
I'm a libertarian, in case you want to call me something else.
In case the health care system goes completely to the dogs, and I can't get paid, I'll sail my Ericson down the river, past the gulf, to the islands and catch fish and dring cheap rum. Anybody else on board for this?

Don't know about Sabre, but Tartan and C&C are in a suburb of Cleveland. They both have some larger models though I don't think you are going to drop 7 million....but you could buy 4 or 5 of Tartan's largest model and build your own fleet.

You might up the price a bit by specifically requesting it be appointed with special order equipment.
Garmin Electronics
Garhauer is one of the few hardware mfgs in the States - though they use ronstan cam cleats on many of their blocks.(not sure where they are from) Harken is as well.
Garmin Electronics
Forespar is from California,
West System is based in Michigan
Waterlox, the wood sealant and coatings company is based in Cleveland.

Hate to break it to you, but Garmin "designs" in the US and manufactures in Taiwan.

Anyway, I commissioned my boat to be built in New Hampshire.

I beg to differ Sten. Yes he has a lot of money and yes his business is technical. He was also one of the few captains that survived the infamous 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and came in second to boot.

Key word - Captain.... A good captain will most often run in those conditions. A person with a win at all costs attitude makes for a dangerous skipper. Only 44 boats out of more than a hundred made it. His track record now extends into the sailing hall of inflamy which was the America's Cup. Geez.. I like rich people most of the time, but when they throw money into sailing crap that is stoopid, I kinda get a little pissed. Richard Branson is in that club - but back to Kerry's boat.

Nice ride. Checked it out a little more. Only two staterooms instead of jamming a bunch of tiny ones. Beautiful lines, why ca't Hinckley make one of these again? They have not made a sailboat in many years. If you want this kind of quality, it needs to be American design and built somewhere else... Sucks, but that is life...

Catalinas are made in Florida. I understand they sucessfully escaped the left coast for lower tax Florida.

Isn't Harken stuff made in Wisconsin or someplace like that?

Morris does big, but not that big. I think Shannon is the only domestic builder building anything larger than 53 feet currently. All of the big cats are built elsewhere too. Remember, this is America. We don't build anything anymore.

I'm pretty sure if our name was John Kerry and we offered Tartan, CC, Sabre, Shanon, or Morris 7 million they'd build us a 72' yacht. Pretty sure but not certain. Let me know guys because I plan on paying the idiot tax soon.

Success begets success. All the naysayers are just basically coveting another mans boat, which is a stupid thing to do. If you can't tote the note, you just will not be able to float that boat. Valiant 42, good choice. I kinda like the Morris biggie and/or the Nordhavn 52 MotorSailor. Gotta do something more important than greet Walmart shoppers.

Ya, that Nordhavn 56 is something of a head-turner, in its own way... I guess you't think I'd be the guy attracted to it, but the Morris and the Valiant are actually more my style. Or maybe a Shannon 46 Schooner... Thing is, if I want to sail on the Med, I'm not gonna spend 3-4 weeks on the Atlantic to get there. Neither that nor going around ever was my thing. Besides, I sure can't be the youngest, and doubt I'd ever be the oldest, so what's the point?
