Bruce, I wish I could come but Sara has a shower to go too on Sat. afternoon and on top of that my trusty Honda failed me last weekend just as we were docking ( Made that real interesting ) Took the hood off and discovered that the wiring harness plug that goes into the CDI ignition module was not making contact ( Corrosion) so I ordered a new harness that came on Thursday. I will be installing that on Sat. morning then hopefully a little sailing (predicted 5 knots) before Sara has to leave. Plenty of wind right now though.
Scott - sad to hear; my bad - didn't give much notice. Winds will be disappointing on Sat.
Had a similar problem with the Honda 8 where salt water was leaking out of the cooling jacket and the water fell on the coil assy. Luckily it wasn't too far gone.
Most likely I will be out on Sat but am not sure as I have been travelling and need to find out if I've been scheduled on the home front. Great idea though and we should figure a way to make it happen.
I'd like to reschedule this event to either Sat August 28, with 29 as a rain date or the weekend after Labor Day (11-Sept with 12 as a rain date), since I have a busy few weeks coming up.
As well, tomorrow's winds forecast looks to have good winds in the AM, and drifter conditions in the PM.
For those further east, would Port Jeff, New Haven Harbor, or the Thimbles work better?
My preference is to make a day of it, but not an overnight. I could be easily convinced otherwise however.....
Ok. Norwalk Islands it is. Let's set a date - how about Sat August 28, with Sunday August 29 as a rain date, works for. I'll be away the following three weekends. High tide is around 8AM, low tide is around 2PM. 1PM good? Looks like there's a good hurricane hole between Shea and Chimon Island.
Thought better of it, will be sailing the Thimbles & Falkner Island this coming weekend [if the Fates allow]. Low tide, even neap tide, in the Norwalk Isles is kind of scary.
The Norwalk Islands are not THAT bad -- but, between delivering kids to colleges and looking at colleges for the youngest this weekend would not work. Labor Day weekend????????
The Thimbles are terrific and well worth a trip but too much of a hike for a raft up coming from Oyster Bay. I think it's great that you are trying to get members together. Let me know if you come West. Any interest in forming a Western Long Island Fleet?
John, A 3-4 hour sail each way is a practical limit. I would be delighted to have occasional meet ups throughout the season in Stamford, Norwalk, Huntington, Cold Spring, Port Jefferson, Mt Sinai or Milford.
Peter, Unfortunately, my schedule is booked near term -- Sept 4,5,6, 11&12, 18 are booked, however Sept 19, 25&26 and Oct 2&3 are still open. I generally sail until late Oct, weather permitting. Let's see whether we can set one date for this season, and try again in '11.
