1st time on this forum. I have a C250 and I am about to purchase an anchor. My question is not about the actual anchor but what are C250 owners doing as far as anchor rollers? etc. I guess the question is What is being mounted to the bow?
Most use the Windline AR-3. That is what I use. I think my next move is a bow pulpit mount for a Fortress FX-7 anchor. I'm thinking of already having the rode through the roller/pin on the AR-3 and ready to be deployed. Setting and retrieving the anchor is literally a pain in the back so I want to go as light and easy as possible.
We have the AR-3 as well, makes it easier to hoist the anchor. The install was a bit tricky since my hands don't fit through the access plate, but fortunately, Rita's did.
Now that the OP has his question answered, could a venture a question? What is the preferred anchor for us poor slobs that just keep our anchor int he anchor locker? I am currently using an anchor loaned to me, but I suspect I could get something a little heavier. The Fortress FX-7 looks like what I could need for my mud bottom lake. However, I noticed that Nautiduck planned to hang that from his bow. Would it fit in my anchor locker? Would you recommend something else?
A good anchor would make me sleep better when we overnight in the cove....
Well, I should blush to mention that I looked at the manual that came with the boat and it recommends the West Marine TR-13 package, with a 13# anchor, 15 feet of anchor chain, and then 200 feet of line. It would certainly be an upgrade to what we are using right now. I thought I would post this for the next fellow that has a similar question and goes to google before their manual. After all, who looks in their manual anyway? =)
This 13# "traditional" West Marine anchor is 28-1/2"L x 22"W, 15" Fluke Length, while the Fortress FX-7 is 4# and 24"L x 19"W Stock, 14" Fluke, while the Fortress FX-11 is 7# and 27"L x 22"W Stock, 16" Fluke. So, it would seem that the Fortress FX-11 would be an even better choice for overnighters, and it should still fit in the anchor locker. In reality, the biggest improvement in my current situation would be the 15 feet of anchor chain, but a good anchor will help me rest easier...
I answered my original question about the size of anchors, but I am still curious as to what other people are using on their boats.
Bryan, We've got a 22lb Claw on ~270' of 3/8" three stranded nylon with 25' of chain as our primary anchor, and a 15lb Danforth with 6' of chain & 100' of 3 stranded nylon rode. The claw sits above the Danforth and either can be used independent of each other. I keep the rode of the Danforth in a nylon sack, which allows it to pay out easily.
We also have a Fortress FX-11, but to make it fit, I'm going to have to cut about 1-1/2" or so off the stock, which I haven't done yet.
FWIW, I know from first hand experience that our Danforth will hold us in 45' of water against a river current with 2:1 scope. I'll spare you the details, but it's nice to know I can rely on the anchor in such a situation. I'm pretty sure the bottom is mud.

The FX-7 should be excellent for your lake. It will fit in the locker too. I am tempted to do the rail mount simply to make the whole process easier. Getting the anchor out of the locker and feeding the rode through the anchor roller, etc gives me a sore back.
I keep my anchor on the rail mount during the season and only put it in the locker during winter while on the trailer. That makes it a lot easier to deploy in the event of an emergency or normal anchoring.
