I have a 2006 C250 WK with a (I think) factory installed marine head. We have been trying to find the cause of an odor most of the summer. My wife thinks its the head, but I'm not totally convinced. I have taken the gear out of all storage compartments on the entire boat and cleaned with disinfectant, dried them and re stowed the gear. I found a little liquid in the bilge, but after much investigation I think my thru-hull speed indicator in the bow was slightly loose and was allowing a small amount of water into the bilge. I have inspected all hoses from bow to stern and haven't found any moisture or indication of moisture. I have pumped out the holding tank and flushed it several times and pumped it out again and again until the fluid from the pump was completely clear. I then dumped in some "Odorless" (came highly recommended by a dock mate). We have always used some type of holding tank product for odors. My owners information shows the standard schematic for a porta potty not a marine head. I measured the holding tank and calculated the volume at 12.75 gallons. As far as I can tell there is a vent for the holding tank on the port side of the transom. My wife is very diligent about not leaving anything on the boat that left for a week would create an odor. I have shampooed the carpet a couple of times, but I don't think its the off gas of the cleaner. Would anyone have a plumbing schematic or any ideas for a solution? Any ideas would make the first mate a happy sailor and take the captain off the hook. Thanks
the smell soaks through the hoses after awhile and need to be replaced . i think a test is place a hot damp rag on the hose for 5 minutes .. if you can smell it on the rag..its time to be done .
the odorless ..has to be used every week .
also if you use sea water to flush that also causes odors ..
Replace the hose with the best sanitation hose you can find. It's somewhat expensive but well worth it, don't skimp on sanitation hose. At the time I installed my marine head and holding tank in 2006 I found Sealand Odorsafe hose was rated at the top, got it from Defender at $9/ft.
