So Carol and I decided to take a sail Saturday. 20% chance of rain, 1 to 2 ft seas, 5 to 10 mph winds. Left the dock about 12:30pm so we would catch the tides relatively correct. Raised the 150 and main to find a solid 10 mph wind with gusts to 15 and we were boogieing (hey, that's how spell check wanted it)! I imagine just about the time I took this first video a Catalina owner from Kentucky (Kevin Dorn, hull#4203 "Distorted Reality" who's down for Vacation looks west from his 12th floor room on the ocean, sees what he thinks is a Catalina 25 sailing by on the river 1/2 a mile away, gets out his binocs and sees it's Bamboo, looks me up on the site, gets my phone number and calls me to let me know how great we look! HOW COOL IS THAT?
So Kevin and I got together to shoot the breeze and drink a few beers Wednesday night, he's a nice guy. Then took him down to the boat at lunch today and we talked about the differences between the 84 and 89 models. Lot's of fun. I would encourage both looking somebody up if you're traveling somewhere where you know there's a Catalina owner, or entertaining that traveler if he's in your town!
Dave, very nice video. Looks like a great day! But don't you love it when a power boat has all the room in the world to avoid you but still manages to speed right past you. I think they get a kick out of doing that. Personally, I have become quite adept at riding their wakes and love it, to a point. Steve A
I suppose I should have explained that Steve, the thought that somebody might perceive it this way passed through my mind. The video is shot on the Intercoastal and there's only 50 feet between the channel markers so in this case he was doing what he had to.
