Hello, My name is Kevin Dorn. I sail Distorted Reality, Catalina 25 #4203 here in Kentucky. I have a story I would like to tell. Last 2 weeks were spent vacationing at Daytona Beach Shores FL. From my 12 floor balcony, one morning I spy a Catalina heading south down the Halifax river, but not sure of the model. My binoculars handy I could make out a sail number of 5877. I asked my wife to confirm. I said to her, "That looks like a 25." With computer at the ready my research began. 5 minutes later I find, Bamboo, Catalina 25 #5877 belongs to David Robbins of Daytona Beach. In another 2 I had a phone number. " Hello Dave, my name is Kevin Dorn. I know you are not home because I can see you on the river. Bamboo looks great and pointing well, If you need crew give me a call." Next day I received a call from Mr. Robbins. I was invited for some drinks at the local watering hole and I gladly accepted. Stories were told and time was well spent with David and his better half Carol, {who I hear is an excellent cook.) At the end of the night I was told he was busy with family engagements and we could not go sailing, but asked if I would like to see Bamboo. The next Day David took time out of his lunch schedule to give ne a personal tour. I was impressed with the 89 wing keel, internal outhaul, internal halyards and other nice goodies that my 85 swinger lacks. In closing I would like to thank David Robbins and his better half Carol, for spending their time with a sailor on vacation. They were excellent hosts. They gave me a little story to tell all of you. If anyone finds themselves in Louisville, Ky,with not much to do maybe I could return the favor.
Kevin and Cynde Dorn. Distorted Reality, sailing lake Cumberland KY.
Kevin, I wish you had been aboard the forum last year when I blew out a trailer tire on a Friday evening on my winter trip to Florida and spent an extra day in Louisville. An independent tire dealer found two tires and met me at his shop saturday morning and got me back on the road. The big chains all said they could have the tires for me by midday on monday. Dinner company on friday would have been fun, but its good to have you here now.
Hi Kevin, yeah that was fun to get home and hear that message on my voicemail. It's too bad we weren't able to go sailing but you do come fairly regularly to Daytona, right? We'll get out there next time!
