The lead keel has some dings, I assume sand to metal and fair with Marine Tex.
There are many pock marks through old pottom paint to the epoxy undercoat. These are not blisters. Just about the size of pencil erasers. You can see old paint underneath.
How to smooth and fiar these?
Advice needed ASAP, will be doing the work tomorrow.
Jim, Using a dremmel tool with a spur, gouge out the blisters and let air dry until you are prepared to fair. Then fair and sand and fair, etcas . When I did this it was necessary to dry all summer, but it has lasted ten + years.
Val, he said they aren't blisters--just craters in the old layers of paint. In my experience, those layers will continue to let go and crater the bottom--you can easily test my theory with a putty knife or a screwdriver. You can temporarily smooth the craters with an orbital sander, but it'll only be temporary. For a permanently smooth bottom, you need to take the paint off. Adding something like Marine Tex in this case will just make future stripping a lot more difficult. It is, after all, epoxy.
I'm going to put marine tek on the leading edge of the lead keel where it has obviously lightly hit a rock. I am just going to try to sand the craters smooth. Then roll on paint, Interlux ultra epoxy based was recommended by the yard.
