I have just purchased a Capri C-25 and know very little about it. I live north of Toronto in Canada. This boat was owned by someone who was moving to Florida and couldn't take the boat with him. He couldn't sell it for the price he wanted so sold it to a friend of mine for scrap even though there is nothing wrong with it and he was racing it the week before. How do I find out more information such as the year it was built, model type, etc. The serial number is 86.
My boat has a manufacturer's plate located at the aft end of the cockpit with serial number and manufacturing date. I believe the boats were made between 1979 and 1988. This website and the organization that maintains it is the best source of information for the boat. The Capri 25 is a one design so I don't think there are any model variations. The one design rules are on this website somewhere as are some of the original design drawings, specifications, etc. There is also a yacht club (Wayzata Yacht Club) at http://www.wyc.org/ that has a large Capri 25 racing fleet and is a good source of information. Lastly, the Sailmaker Elliott/Pattison (www.epsails.com) has specialized in making sails and providing tuning information for this boat. Good luck with the boat I love mine.
On the stern, just below the rubrail on the starboard side, the Hull Identification Number (HIN) should be scratched(literally) or pressed into the hull gelcoat. If it's not on the stern, it will be on the starboard side, very near the stern. This will give you information about the hull number, year and month of manufacture.
