I am using the HF boat trailer winch tomorrow to load the C25. This will be the second time and the design problems I hope are solved. I used a turning block wheel from an old block to help both cables from rubbing the rubber V cushion on a steep ramp. This also allows the use of both winches. I use the manual winch with a brake to let the boat into the water during launch. This would be a spectacle if the boat were free to roll off into the water. The electric winch is used once a year and then is put away. The power out is very slow and uses up almost all the battery. You run the pickup engine during the use so you don't have to get a jump to start up again.
Wish me well so that I don't make the 6 O'clock News.
Well, glad I had the manual winch (not wench) as the electric unit took one turn and quit. I took a lot of time with time outs to get the boat up on the trailer. Tomorrow will look at fuses as the unit worked great at home without pulling the boat. I guess that means you aren't getting a electric trailer winch tomorrow. The boat is put away for the Winter season.
Jim, are you sure the winch is rated for that kind of weight? I say this because it reminds me of when my brother had fits trying to incorporate an electric winch for his power boat. He was trying to do it without spending an arm and a leg but even when within weight limits nothing short of the high dollar stuff would do the job (no matter what they claimed).
The unit worked last season with no problem and it is the big unit rated for the boat. I have opened it up and lube all gears and shafts. Checked the electrical connections and tightened but for this time checked unit and it had problem with plug-in cords. After correcting felt unit was going to work with test but it didn't. Glad I kept manual winch in place.
Found the problem. The control plug-in broke and pushed in so no electrical connection could be made. I was standing on the front of the trailer and did not look into the socket. It looked like it was connected, bad plastic socket. Another lesson learned.
