Eeks, looking at this picture I suddenly realized that if we move the traveler just outside the companionway, we will have to position the bimini between the new mainsheet position and the rear stay . . .
Was a very breezy day here on Sunday and we cussed at the stock mounted traveler everytime we tacked!
Jim's photo brings up the issue of materials. Be sure to look into the different materials that are available for the tubing and the fittings, buy what you feel you need for strength; sometimes people fall against or grab biminis for support.
Also notice in my first photo that I am using Harken cam cleat wedges to level the coaming for the fitting.
Good point Frank, I do have the other metal fittings but never thought of the strength issue. I did cut the main tube to reduce height and found the tubing to be double which is very strong, WM purchase. Have been looking at a back area cover made from a pile of dodgers from power boats that my local boat repair shop gave me and all the tubing is single. The last NW cruise had a lot of rain and covering the aft area seemed to be a good idea, we shall see.
Mounted mine to the side and as far aft as I could go and still clear the mainsheet. When the sail is up it clears fine, have sailed with it up, takes a little getting use to...can't just look up and see windex or sail trim as easy. Also have to short stroke the winch. Handle will hit the tubing.
Hi, I've put mine on the outside, give you a bit more room to go forward. Bought the adjutement slides, but doesn't used them. But the rigid post to store it upright is great. Yes, I redid the wood work since these pictures :-)
