There is a lot to be said for good relationships with neighbours. That is probably worth more than the $$$ for the storage.

OTOH, there is a lot to be said for honest business practices as well. If you feel unhappy with this policy, you should let the marina know, and have the chance to explain themselves.

If you're interested in price comparisons, the boat club I am joining charges $12/ft for members, including haulout and launch. If you are not a member but are a member of an affiliated club (dryl.org, and maybe cbyca.org), you pay $15/ft. The only catch is you must provide your own boat stands or trailer. If you haul out to a trailer and take it with you it is $20 for haulout, $20 for launch ($75/$75 for dryl affiliates). You have to do your own bottom washing, but they have ample water and electric. Scheduling is tricky due to skinny water and 6-7' tidal swings.

For comparison, the nearby boatyard 1/2 mile up the road was $25/ft. for storage, $100 for haulout, and $100 for launch. For this price they provide stands, but you have to do the bottom wash yourself, and there is no security in the yard, and an adjacent nightclub with many reported problems of vandalism and drunks climbing on your boats. The last straw for me was when they told me that their water was shut down due to construction, so I would have to let the slime dry on my boat all winter. That's what led me to call the boat club to inquire into membership.

With the difference in price, the savings will pay back my initiation fee and boat stand purchase in about 2 winters.
