I am new owner of a 1985 Cat 25 swing keel. I came with a Shore lander trailer with rollers. PO had no idea how to set the boat on the trailer, me either. My question is this, their is a cross member designed to let the keel rest, on each end of the cross member is a handle that appears to have the ability to move up and down that might raise or lower the cross member. At the moment the keel is setting on the cross member and so trying to pull up on the cross member only causes for back to ache. Is this a trailer for a swing keel? Does the cross member raise and lower? What position of the cross member is meant for what function-- launch? trailer on highway? Thanks for your help, unfortuantely I don't have pics and I am 400 miles from the boat right now.
Does the boat appear to be sitting on the trailer safely now? Sounds like the keel rest might be adjustable. Is it in the full down position? On Shore Lander's web site, there is no link that I could find to sailboat trailers, makes me wonder it you have a modified powerboat trailer. you just need to be sure the roller arms are high enough to be able to lower the keel slightly. What you don't want is to have the keel resting on the trailer and the weight of the boat on the keel too. Any bump in the road could result in damage to the keel trunk.
Can't help you but the Easyloader for my 79 swing does have an adjustment for the keel. The keel is lowered on to the roller after the boat is loaded so the most of the weight of the keel is now on the trailer.
I was abe to get to the boat this past weekend and found that the roller bunks had been lowered to facilitate loading and launching of the boat. The boat Restless, has not been on the road in a while winter storage in marina. I was able to have Restless hauled off the trailer and I adjusted the bunks so that the keel now has about 3 inched of lowering on to the keel guide taking the weight off of Restless belly. I feel better now and have her set to travel back with me next spring to Chicago area. Thanks for everyone's help
