I have been boatless for 5 months, do you know how sad a sailing duffel looks sitting next to the door, wanting to go and having nowhere to go? My sailing gloves have been spread around to my cars to use as driving gloves! Someone saw me in one of my Greek Fisherman's hats the other day and asked me if I was on my way to stick a finger in a dike.

ENOUGH!

Bought a 1985 Starwind 223 about an hour ago, let the projects begin.

Hey, 8' beam and roomy cockpit!

We know how thoroughly you analyzed this boat . . . what drew you to your conclusion?
Hey, 8' beam...

8'6" I think... I've liked them at boat shows--don't think I've ever seen one on the water. They seem nicely thought-out. Waiting for details!

8'6" beam, shoal keel with centerboard (easy to dry sail), tilt-up top, 3/4 fractional rig with SA/Disp of 19.54 (very powerful main), spinnaker, beamy cockpit, new Tohatsu 5, PHRF 264. Thanks for asking.

(From various ads on sailingtexas.com the best place to sell a boat. My boat is prettier.)

Sweet Frank. I was just wondering the other day after you posted a bunch of pics if you were going nuts yet. Glad to know you're back on the water!

Should be a real benefit for the other Starwind owners to have you aboard. I had one on my very short list when I bought my Clipper 21 some years ago. A pretty nice package.

You will probably drive the PHRF racers on Cheney a fit. That PHRF rating should be a licence to steal!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. It will be fun to bring her up to standards. One thing that astounds me at this point is that all the fasteners on the boat are badly corroded, even the washers. Of course there is no Starwind forum to compare to this so I will probably post a few things here.

Derek, I expect to be able to sail her to her numbers and then some... he he he.

I'm in the market for a boat, will be interested to hear your on-going reports Frank...especially the comparisons to the C25.

This is a nicer boat than mine.
http://sailingtexas.com/201009/sstarwind223106.html
My first keel boat was a Spirit 23 shoal keel with centerboard. I have also owned a Merit 25 with a fin, a C25 swinger and a C25 wing, There are few old, (read that cheap), wings so to me a shoal keel is preferable to a swinger in the price range I was shopping.

Maybe the admiralty forum will become the "how to make a starwind shipshape"! Always good to have comparisons.. course, it's not a Catalina...( I don't won't no fights now )
