Hi Guys, I'm doing my companionway wood and hatch boards. The guy next door said give it a couple hours to dry and add another coat. The can says 24 hours between coats. What's your recommendation?

I'd say Sikkens knows best, although I recall adding coats after something like 12 hours--maybe less... I also did a light rub with a fine Scotch-Brite pad and then a cloth between coats.
OK, thanks Dave. As I'm sure you know I've mostly been a bleach & Stain guy so am a cetol rookie but figure it'll go a lot further in a more traveled area, I'll go ahead and wait the 24 hours. Doing 2 coats of the natural and then 2 coats of the gloss.
I've always used a varnish but I'm getting tired (old maybe?) of the annual sanding and varnishing. My boat stays in the water year round so it's rough on the varnish. Let us know how you like the Cetol. Lots of preferences here on the forum.. Bill
Dave, I put cetol on last spring and its held up very well. I have a couple places to touch up this spring where my lines rubbed. Overall I'm very happy with it.
Got the first coat on, looks really good! And Bill, you don't have to wait for my commentary on cetol, the folks on this site love it, that's why I'm using it. I do like the tint of the "Natural" cetol. But the Daytona Beach sun will test the gloss overcoat's UV abilities, we'll see how that turns out.
The PO put Cetol on my boat before I bought. I'm not sure how long before but I've owned it for 3-1/2 years and it's just know starting to flake off a little. I will definitely be reapplying it
Yeah it worked out pretty good. The "Natural" was on sale at WM for $21.99, but the gloss was still $40.00 or something (qt.). I was dreading spending the money (yes I'm a little tight) when my neighbor walked up and said he had the gloss but needed the Natural. SWEET. He's got a 40+ footer and is touching up before he heads to the Bahamas (must be nice).
I'm noticing that the gloss takes longer to cure so will let it set another day. Normal? Or maybe because the gloss is a year old?
"I'm noticing that the gloss takes longer to cure" Dave - I've noticed that as well. I can normally put 3 coats of regular on about 1 hour apart - but the gloss seems to need at least 4 hours to dry completely.
Really, ............. an hour apart. I was waiting for 24 like the can says. And you've had no ill effects? And then with the gloss, it was still wet 3 hours later and somewhat soft 24 hours later. You know, just not as hard of a finish. And I do realize humidity and temp play a part, we've been in the low 80's but with some humidity.
Sorry, but even though I want to be there every weekend, the family can't. :( I'm currently planning a fishing trip for the following weekend starting mid Saturday through Sunday. We may be able to stop by ur place to eat at lucky's though.
