Last August the keel cable broke and caused a few cracks at the back of the trunk. Repairs to the keel trunk from the inside can only be done by cutting away portions of the seat. There is quite a bit of play between the keel and the trunk so am hoping to make this repair from the outside of the keel trunk. Has anyone done it this way and how did it work. Please no comments about this why I wouldn't buy a swing keel or converting the keel
In the Tech Tips section, there's at least one topic on repairing cracks in the keel trunk. In the C-25 forum, there are numerous threads on this that you can find with the Search function... Here's one that talks about lowering the keel assembly by replacing the hanger bolts with long threaded rods (changing them one at a time). It appears to me to be a clever and practical approach. In particular, see the post from ClamBeach on 9/5/2006. (But be careful not to read my comment at the end of the thread. )
I suspect making the repair from the outside will be structurally sounder than from the inside only, as long as you still retain the necessary clearances in the trunk. Both sides would probably be best, but I'd hate to cut up my interior.
