A few years ago a group went out of Ft Lauderdale to Bimini. Is snaybody planning a trip anytime soon? We are thinking about it. We would need to trailer down from NC (and back) so we need at least an extra 2-3 days.
Just checking right now. we have no firm plans and we have a pretty full sailing schedule already this year.
Not this year but when I retire in a couple of years we'd love to come and do that trip. From what I have heard you have to be very flexible with your time in order to get the right conditions. Not a trip to be squeezed into a set timeline.
If you don't connect with someone here, go to trailersailor.com and start a thread on their forum. In the past, they had frequent group crossings to the Bahamas. The trailor sailor forum used to host the C25 national Association, until several years ago, when we established our own website. I haven't checked in with them for awhile, but assume they're still active. They were always an enthusiastic group.
Randy is right. Plan on having plenty of time for a Bimini Trip. It's only 52nms, but that is potentially 13-14 hours, or more.
FYI, we just reduced our Boat US coverage that had a rider to allow passage to the Bahamas, it was an extra $100ish a year, we're not going to Bimini or the Bahamas on JD this year
We are looking at a 10-12 day trip to the west coast of Florida this June/July, still planning to see if we can better our Keys trip last year.

We had excellent weather all 10 days.
One thing to be aware of, on the west coast, in June/July/August/Sept. is afternoon thunderstorms. The storms usually build up along the coast around 2-3pm and then move inland. But sometimes they move inland and then move back out over the coast. The leading edge of these storms can be extremely nasty.
We don't have them every day, but during those months we get more than the rest of the year. Not something to worry about, but you might want to have alternate plans in place to tuck in somewhere around 3pm-4pm. Have fun, let me know if you need info on anything from Tarpon Springs down to Marco.
