Very month it gets better! Was back down to Tom Curran's yesterday for another race. I'd call it 5 to 12 knots from the NW early going N NE and then ENE by afternoon. 14 boats in the field. If we hadn't had a couple small problems we'd have taken 3rd overall at least. This time with the lighter winds more of a chess match. But it didn't matter to Chuck and Confetti, he cleaned up on the field AGAIN .................... But I'm stoked about our 2nd, ready for the April races!!
Here's a pic of Confetti flying his Spinnaker, leaving the field.
Tom also flew his Asymmetrical. First time I've been aboard while one was up

Yes, it was a great day for Cat 25's!! Our two boats were also the only ones that carried chutes!!! I was sure glad I had the sonar alarm on or I may have also run aground about where you guys did!!
The spinnaker we carried is 34 yrs old and still seems to work. Its made of scraps of cloth and a competitor from 24 years ago said it looked like a bunch of confetti, and thats how the boat got her name!
I also noticed (again) that the chute was built for a standard rig, not a tall rig, so I think I need to increase its height to match the rig and get more sail area (especially since you guys are catching up to me closer every race!!!!!) Congrats to the skipper and crew of Island Time!

Dave, One thing you didn't mention for folks.... Tom was skippering Island Time only 3 weeks after having rotator cuff surgery on his right shoulder!!! (yes, Tom is right handed!!) Yikes!!! I better get to work on adding sail areas to my chutes since by next month Tom will be back to 100%!!!
Dave, Yes, after Watkins folded they sold the 25 molds to ComPac. I use to stuff cushions for a company that supplied interior cushions to Watkins, ComPac, Island Packet to name a few. They were/are all built outside of St Pete, FL.
My buddy has a Watkins 25 and my wife liked it better than the Catalina 25 (feels bigger both inside and out). So every now and then I would google Watkins 25 to see is any were for sale, finally found one this past January. My wife is happy, she has her boat that we take for over-nighters and day cruises, I have my boat to race. The only downside is my marina only allows one wet slip per family, so I keep the Catalina on its trailer (still in the marina). I'm sure one day I'll have to sell one of them (most likely the C25).
Tom, the Watkins/Com-Pac definitely feels bigger--we really liked the Com-Pac 25, but couldn't afford it at 45K+ back around 1997-8. (I suspect it gives up a few degrees to the C-25 going to weather, but we didn't plan to race.)
Dave, yes it does give up a few (quite a few) degrees, but my my buddy does alright in our unique handicap system. Our racing is nothing real serious, it's for a plastic coffee cup and the right to buy the fleet a round. We have all makes and models out there (no cats yet), from an AMF 16 to an O'Day 32.
