I have decided to change the nasty, probably original curtains in my 1984 Catalina 25. I've looked online and in the catalogs of West Marine and BoatUS and they carry the same system "CutainMate". Anyone been down this road that might share what they learned with me? I'll appreciate any insights.

We have been down this road before. There are several views on curtains. The first question is are you married ? Not to be personal this leads to the second question does the wife know how to sew ? If your not married does the girlfriend know how to sew ? If you have no girlfriend or wife presently would you like to learn how to sew ? Its quite easy with all the modern machines. Now if you have neither a companion nor want to learn to sew can you find a friend who would probably love to make a couple of simple panels in exchange for dinner or a sail. The windows on the C-25 taper from front to back but this doesnt mean the curtains must. I ran thin elastic cord from front to aft just a few inches past each end of the cabin windows. One continuous length above the windows about 1" up and one below about 1" below the tallest point. I made the cords equal space along the whole length. Anchoring the cord to the cabin wall is by choice also. eyelets work fine. My wife made several pannels of fabric wider than the distance between upper and lower cord by 2" prhaps a bit less. She folded over the top edge 1" and sewed it and did the same with the botom. It was then a mater of threading the cord through the top and bottom to hold them in place on the cabin wall. She made them long enough to have some bunching or rinkles. One panel for each window. They can be slid forward or aft to clear the window for looking out. You can also make smaller panels so you can have two for each window then you can slide them one forwaed and one aft. You can also make a nice ribon or tie to hold the curtain however this is mostly looks as the elastic should hold them where ever you slide them to. You can use a nice marine print with lighthouses or boats or sea shells, whatever style you like and you can also sew a backing on the curtain to stop the fabric from fading in the sun. Ill have to take some pictures of mine and post them. They are easy to do and realy dress up the boat.
