We are in the process of getting a separate dinghy motor. In the past we have been using our main motor for both functions (Boat and dinghy motor). This meant mounting and dis-mounting our 8hp Johnson every time we wanted to use the dinghy. It wasn't easy but (if the seas were calm) not that much of an issue. We plan to use our dinghy more and more.
We are now getting a separate dinghy motor and we are thinking of where to store it. Does anybody have thoughts of a stern rail mounted motor bracket? Anybody have pics of what works for them? Any issues with what you have?
I have seen several possibilities but wanted to see what some of the "gotchas" are.
The admiral does NOT want to put the +/- 30 lb motor inside.
I have seen those "kicker pads" and mounts like them. Is yours on the bow pulpit?
My problem is I want to mount mine on the stern and the '89 doesn't have a "good" vertical stern rail pole to support the kind of mount you show.
I may be able to configure something on the end of the stern rail but it may be in the way. I haven't spent much time playing with it yet.....
I'm more looking for where to place the mount? I "prefer" to NOT have the motor mounted on the bow in case of rough waves. We do go "outside" once and a while and can get in some rough waves.
We may have to go with a bow mount but prefer not.
