He tells me that it's 75" wide. Do you guys think that this would fit on my boat? I have a 1986 Catalina 25. I can't get out to the boat till this Saturday and I'd hate for this deal to pass me by.
Eddy, mine measures 77" outside to outside on the attachment brackets and is pretty close to the edges of the coaming. I believe the 75" would fit even if you had to spring it just a little to reach. I say go for it!
Good price, hope you get it. When you buy one, take it out to the boat along with 2 washcloths or small rags, pieces of carpet, etc. With someone helping to hold it, open up the bimini with the ends on the rags to protect the deck from scratches (deck mounting brackets should also be attached), and position it where you want it relative to the boom, sheet winches, etc. Remove the rags and mark the deck where you want the brackets to be. With luck, it will be wide enough to mount on genoa track cars.
The bimini should open up to be almost flat, as Don noticed.
I designed my bimini to be about 6' long and extend forward from the backstay up over the companionway about 6" for maximal protection from sun or rain.
I don't know the length at this point. but for the price I don't think that it matters to much. I just want a little shade, I don't care to cover the whole cockpit. I hope I can install it on the track like I saw someone else do on a thread on here. I'll keep you guys updated.
I positioned ours midway between the boom vang and the end of the boom, it's 6 ft long, and covers part of the companionway. I can also stand up behind it to see the main sail set if I need to. We only use the bimini while sailing if the wind is very light.
I have one on my catalina 22 and it rocks on those hot August days when the wind just dies down.. and I end up anchoring... having a lil shade is nice sometimes..
The one on your C-22 will transfer to the C-25. It just might be a bit short if you have a std rig. That's what we did with ours, and it does just barely fit under our tall rig boom. All I had to do was add appropriate mounts to the deck of the C-25. This way, I can use it on either boat.
If you do move your bimini from the C-22 and it won't reach the genoa tracks, please consider installing bimini tracks on your deck. I wish I had done it. They will give you much more flexibility in placement and may let you lean it back against the backstay when not needed. Mine rests on the cabin top, which is not ideal.
I did. I went ahead and borrowed a truck from my friends in desoto and drove down to Ennis to pick it up. It's is very adjustable. So I'll be able to make it work. For now I left it in my friends garage until I get the boat moved. Once she's a Joe pool then I'll mount it. For $120 it was a good deal.
