Guys- Here an update. The button on the left is the kill switch. The connector on the right is to charge your batteries. after getting all the dirt doppers off the engine and cleaning the carb, she cranked on the fifth pull. We had to work on the idle for minute but pretty soon she was humming in tune. We are going to replace the impeller in the foot. Other than that? 7.5 hp is what the manual says. Needless to say I am satisfied with todays results. Thanks for all your help.
Tate: How far below the surface is the anti-cavitation plate (above the prop)? 4-5" is pretty good... Much less and you could have problems. Depending on where your water intake is, one problem can be sucking air when you go to the foredeck with the engine running. The engine that came with my C-25 had that problem--not good for the impeller, much less for the block.
Tate, IVe had experience with thoe old, small British Seafullls from the late 1960's and early 1970's. The owner's manual back then started something like this:
"If you are the normal American, you have mounted the outboard motor, spent several hours and much exertion to no avail, become frustrated and angry, and only after all that have now come to read the Instruction Manual."
They were used in England in the 1930's, in WWII, and developed a great reputation among fishermen and sailors over there, but they can be a real pain in the butt in an emergency. The ones I used had no protective shielding and could easily burn you or catch a line or shirtsleeve in the open magneto wheel.
