New to the forum, and recently new to re-owning a Cat25 swing keel. Looking to move it from St. Petersburg, FL to Fort Pierce, FL asap. If I can't find a tow, I'll head for the Okee waterway which I would love to do but would rather spend that time fixing up and sailing her in the new home waters.
Anyone have the capability and desire to help me migrate? (I don;t have trailer or vehicle capable).

Hello DavyJ; would love to do something in the next 2 weeks. Current plan was to cast off for okee waterway as early as next monday and then I found this forum today. With a plan and depending on cost I can be a little more flexible, I have to move from current dock in St Pete Beach area by end of March. Not sure if it gets pulled out at a ramp and destepped at the dock (I've never done this) or pulled at a boatyard and destepped. I see the sunshine skyway in your profile photo so I know you know the area, I'll welcome any advice.
To Pastmember; thanks. I cannot believe how active this forum is and how sad I am I never found/participated in it the first time I had Cat25 (2004-2008). Felt a little akward introducing self "looking for a ride" ;-) I shall be sure to continue participating, seems like a truly great bunch :-)
I appreciate the thought Dave; thanks. Two ships passing as it were... When you get back to FL you have a fellow Cat25-friend on the east coast should you make it over. Safe trip north.

I have a Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins diesel and I have a swing keel trailer. The problem is, my trailer hasn't been used in many years and probably needs quite a lot of repairs to make road worthy. If you can find a trailer, or know someone who can repair mine I might be able to help. Also, even if you want help stepping the mast, I've done it about 3000 times now..
DavyJ---Of course I’m asking for a favor, but it can’t be charity. I really want it to be a win-win for both of us.
Have you been wanting your trailer fixed up or do you want to sell it? What do you think it needs: Tires, Wheel Bearing/s, Axel, Structural-frame welding etc? Is it currently registered? I pulled a list of trailer repair shops in your area if we decide to move forward we can look them over.
I probably have a budget of about $500-$600; I am not sure if this is enough for what I seek. If you think less your fuel cost and time we can fix up your trailer for that, we should talk?
According to google maps it’s 160 miles each way from Apollo to Ft. Pierce inlet.
I’ll likely have her blocked at a boatyard at destination to take care of a coupe things while she’s out of the water. This means we won’t need to launch and re-step mast in Ft. P.
Let me know what you think. Feel free to email me directly. If this does not work for you, no hard feelings; I really appreciate the interest and having already “met” some fellow Cataliner’s through this forum.
Steve,
PS: Regarding 3,000 mast step/de-steps; damn... you're through the looking glass on that one for sure. I'd love to have that skill-badge someday :-)
The mast comes down easy if you are careful. Watch DavyJ's You Tube videos. I made the A-frame like his, coste about $25-$35 for the materials, not hard to do. All you will need is a good hammer and a drill. See my recent thread "1st Use..." It can also be made out of 2x4x10 lumber. I recommend using an A-frame and taking down the mast while you are still in the water. It's much safer that way.
Hi dmpilc I'll bet it comes down easy even if not careful ;-) Putting back up just gets harder... Thanks for the followup. I did watch the video and will check out your thread. Certainly think this is a skill worth having. Thanks

I used the trailer one time, to bring the boat up from Sarasota and it's been sitting ever since, about seven years. I don't have a need for it, so I haven't looked into it. I would think it would need tires, brake work and who knows what else. It may not be worth it, I'll have to go over and take a look at it.
You may be able to rent a trailer, A friend of mine rented a trailer for a power boat and we towed it from Fort Myers back.
You can probably count my trailer out. I took a close look at it. It will need new tires, drum brakes replaced, all the brake lines are rusted out. The actuator looks like it will need to be replaced. The winch and strap/cable are shot. Basically, structurally sound, but every moving part looks like it would need replacement. I think someone could repair it themselves, but by the time you factor in the parts and the labor to remove the old stuff you could find a usable trailer for not that much more or maybe less.
Let me know if you find a trailer or need any other assistance.
To: DavyJ - thanks for checking it out. I have not been able to find any for rent; I did spot one Cat25 listing on craigslist-sarasota who is looking for owner partner and has a trailer; perhaps I can rent it from him.
Hi Wes: potentially very interested, let me know what you require to accomplish. Love your boat's name! Is the dingy: "Pull my Fender" ?
I have the trailer that is set up for the 82 SK and the stuff for lowering the mast. Trailer is only 2 years old so it needs nothing. You would have to get it picked up and taken off the trailer if it is in salt water. Email me if you want (wes dot newcast at frontier dot com)
To Wes: WOW, what an offer; thank you! Let me look into the details and I'll contact you in a few days. The marina over here has a forklift and travel lift so picking it up to unload not a problem. Do you put trailer in the water on the gulf coast side? THANKS AGAIN !!
Hi Sten: I want to sail it too :-) just not sure I have the time and trailering it would allow me to do some bottom work and inspect keel system. Will keep you up to date. Thanks for offer.
Wes: totally understand the no-salt water rule, I would do the same; just wasn't sure if you were launching "Breaking Wind" from trailer in fort myers. I used a boat yard in St Pete a few years back for some work, will call them friday and inquire. Will keep you posted. I'm still trying to get the time off from work to make the journey via H2O but you have given me great peace of mind as alternative. Thank you.
Welcome Steve! A few words of caution: A used trailer may need all of the stuff that Davy J's needs anyway. It may be better to consider the known, vs. the promises made by someone you don't know. When I bought my used trailer, after the seller waved bye at the driveway, they were DONE with me. After they had my cash in hand, their phone and email mysteriously quit working. Any of the offers by the above members to come visit, or help you could be very helpful! Last, if a friendly guy, you don't know, at the boat yard says he is going to help you. Ask, what he means, and what will it cost. Some people confuse the gleam in your eyes with dollar signs, and the price just creeps up and up.
On the other hand, you will find this forum to be awesome! All of your questions are good questions. The C25 is a great boat, post some pics. Doug
