I just ordered a new rudder from CD. Blue water version cut to fit my wing keel. We sail in the Great South Bay on Long Island and the extra deep version would have been a no-no.....Anybody have any experience with this rudder????? Hoping I made the right choice.....
I ordered the regular version recently for my 1984 C-25. If you search the archives (there is a search button in the upper right) you can find a lot of information on this rudder and both positive and negative reviews.
I should get my rudder in a week or two and look forward to using it. I ultimately chose this one over a fiberglass/foam core rudder because my primary concern (breakage) would be handled by the lifetime warranty and I liked the idea of a rudder that wouldn't split along the core. I still have my original rudder, it just isn't in very good shape and has a soggy core.
I guess my next job is to figure out what bottom paint to apply to the rudder.
My rudder arrived yesterday, 2 weeks before it was due...that was a nice surprise. It looks nice and is well made, but looks mean little here. I can provide feedback on how it sails for me (a newbie) after a few months. I'll be painting and installing it this weekend.
